The Saskatchewan Health Information
Management Association (SHIMA) is a Professional Organization comprised
of Health Information Management (HIM) professionals in the province of
Saskatchewan. The SHIMA is an affiliate of the Canadian Health
Information Management Association (CHIMA), national association for the HIM Profession. The role of the CHIMA is to provide professional
development and ongoing support for the HIM Professionals. The CHIMA is the registering body for the profession and
sets the national educational standards for HIM programs.
SHIMA Objective
The objective of the SHIMA is to promote the role of HIM professionals and to enhance the quality of Health
Information Services. The objectives of the SHIMA are to:
1.Represent the profession on issues affecting the quality of health information management services.
2.Provide and promote opportunity for professional development of the membership.
3.Promote high standards of education for the profession.
4.Interpret the HIM service and increase awareness of the profession to the public.
5.Liaise with governments on legislative matters, which impact upon HIM services.
SHIMA Statement of Purpose
The SHIMA is comprised
of HIM professionals whose objective is to
promote the roles of HIM professionals and to
contribute to the wellness and the provision of quality healthcare
through excellence in health information.
