History of the Alice Rublee Award
The Saskatchewan Association of Medical Libraries was started in 1958. Alice Rublee was the president from 1959 – 1960. In 1962 she passed away suddenly and it was decided that a plaque/medal would be presented in her honour. This award was first given to Reverend Sister Louise Boulet, R.N. and Miss Patricia A. Cyr in 1962.
In 1963 Mr. and Mrs. Rublee presented the Association with a gavel at the institute of Saskatoon. In 1973 a trust fund was set up from the estate of Alice’s mother, Gertrude Rublee. Interest from this fund was to go to our association. It was agreed that this money would be used to purchase the Alice Rublee Award.
Up until 2006 the recipient received the Alice Rublee Pin and $50. At the Fall SHIMA Convention in 2005 a motion was made to change the award to a Wheat Sheaf pin with engraving on the back if possible, a framed certificate and a monetary gift to make up $200. This decision to change the award was in keeping with the new SHIMA logo, the decision to discontinue the SHIMA First Year Scholarship, which was based on SIAST’s program adjustments, and the move made to one award for a Health Information Management Professional.
